Great teacher!
Danny knows what he's doing, teaches great technique, and is firm but kind. He's taken my son from a so-so drummer to someone who gets professional gigs - the best! |

Danny was almost a father figure to me in my pursuit in music. He is truly inspiring, and teaches all his students with great enthusiasm and charisma. By emphasizing regular practice routines, sight-reading, and basic rudimental technique, Danny really gives you the tools to explore different styles and genres of music that will eventually help develop a personal voice.
Danny is by far the most enthusiastic and passionate drum instructor that I have ever come across. Danny will give you his undivided attention for the duration of your lesson, and then continue to better you by sending emails and finding other sources that all make you a better drummer. It does not matter if you have never played drums before, or have been playing for years; Danny's experience and expertise will better your drumming and musical abilities. I had been playing for about 3 years when I first started taking lessons from Danny and have gained so much from my lessons with him. Danny is really good about teaching sound fundamental techniques. This is essential for the development of any drummer. On top of everything Danny is very good about showing his students positive influences and supporting his students in all their musical experiences. For example Danny sends out weekly emails containing Youtube videos of drumming greats such as Steve Gadd or Buddy Rich, opening both the eyes and ears of his young students (and their parents) to the endless possibilities of drumming and music. Danny also has a website which he constantly updates with pictures and sidenotes of his students and what they are doing with their music.
I would highly recommend taking lessons from Danny!
I would recommend this teacher
My son has been taking drum lessons from Danny for about 2 years. During that time he's gone from complete beginner to playing in Danny's drum line with other drummers that have 3 times my son's experience. Danny's skilled instruction was a key part of my son's rapid growth as a musician. Danny is also more than the ordinary music instructor. He is a music evangelist. The first performance of the drum line was an amazing evening with a packed house and great vibes. His vision for the drum line and a surrounding music community has that larger-than-life feel that doesn't come along often. To say that I'm pretty excited about the possibility of this is an understatement. Students who engage with Danny will not only learn drums but have the chance to be part of something very special.
Danny has been teaching our son for the last 4 years. We have been very impressed with his comprehensive approach to teaching drums. He has challenged our son in many ways that have made him an accomplished drummer.
He is patient and encouraging. He relates well with teens and young kids. He really knows his stuff and he is a blast to have around.
I was with Danny for about three and a half years and they were the most important to my growth as a drummer. I learned everything from Danny. He is so passionate about drums and teaching and it really shows during lessons. He knows how to PROPERLY teach the essential skils that every drummer needs including how to keep time, how to grove in any musical situation, read, feet cordination and any other form of independence. From drum corps, to Latin, to Rock, and back to Jazz Danny always seemed to challenge and excite me with something new and we had a blast in our lessons. Though he always gets down to business, he inspires you to do the same. He's a great drummer and educator. If only more teachers could inspire and teach people of all ages like Danny. What else can I say, he's the most passionate teacher I know and he'll bring the drummer out of anyone.
I have been drumming for over 35 years. My son started to take serious interest in the instrument and I chose Danny to teach him based on a recommendation from a musician friend. That was 8 years ago. During that time my now 16 year old son has grown incredibly unders Danny's instruction. His reading and fundamentals are exceptional and he is currently playing semi-professionally and plans on pursuing music and drumming agressively. We both now know alot of people in the industry yet still choose to remain under Danny's instruction after so many years. I think that say's it all! I'm more than pleased to write this on Danny's behalf.
Danny is enthusiastic, engaging, and passionate about his teaching. He truly cares about his students and how much they learn. He pushes his students to be the best that they can be, but somehow simultaneously does not put on any pressure which would make them less infatuated with the instrument.
Danny Descalzo doesn't just teach the rudiments of drumming, he shares the spirit of music. He has been invaluable to my son, who has been studying with him for 8 years. Danny finds ways to raise the bar and go with the student's talent and interests. He is connected with the Bay Area music scene and can put students in touch with other opportunities.
